Alex spott
NY-Based filmmaker
Alex Spott is a screenwriter and director based in Brooklyn, NY. She loves navigating the complexities of life with a dark comedy lens and infusing surrealism and magic into seemingly normal situations. She is dedicated to uplifting women and amplifying their voices, on and off camera, aiming to capture the nuances of women’s complex, beautiful, and absurd experiences with authenticity and empathy. Having worked over 10 years in advertising, she understands the importance of grabbing people’s attention, getting annoying feedback, and masking meaning in art.
Diane Martel, music video director and previously Miley Cyrus’ creative director, once said, “You can tell Alex is the smartest girl in the room – her mind never shuts off, it’s both frightening and awe-inspiring.”
Alex spent her childhood writing plays, hugging trees, having a crush on Tuxedo Mask, and shooting movies with the kids in her neighborhood. She spends her adulthood crying in therapy, hanging in nature, writing, going upstate, riding horses, and killing lanternflies.
No Other Gods But Me (2022), her first short film, was selected for 18 festivals and won 10 awards.
She is currently working on her first feature screenplay, And if I die, a dark comedy about grief as told through a suicidal zombie and her best friend.
